Adding the Magnetic Pickup…

Package 2 has all the features described in package 1 with the addition of the magnetic pickup. This custom pickup is mechanically isolated from the fretboard and dulcimer top. The purpose of this isolation is so that the mass of the pickup does not interfere with critical sound producing members thus preserving the unplugged acoustic sound of the instrument. Volume and tone control for the magnetic pickup is added as well as a switch that selects parallel humbucking or single coil mode. Humbucking cancels electrical noise that might be picked up in heavy electro-magnetic environments. It also gives a bit warmer voice. The single coil mode could be a bit noisier and has a more “chimy” voice. However, at this point, we have not been able to get the instrument in an environment that can make it pickup noise. It is a very low noise pickup system. If a mono cable is plugged into the 1/4” jack, the blend of the magnetic and bridge comes out the “tip”. If a stereo cable is used, the bridge signal is on the ring and the magnetic signal is on the tip of the 1/4” jack.
